Understanding by Doing

Our masters students have the option to participate in a structured field experience practicum for course credit. You’ll create a practicum based on your individual goals, working with a professional expert in health informatics.

The practicum, usually 16 weeks, provides a foundation for professional development. You’ll refine skills and behaviors for successful practice in the complex healthcare environment. Through a mentoring relationship with the preceptor at your site, you’ll explore new opportunities for managing technology and organizational transformation in an environment that’s constantly changing.

The practicum experience will give you an appreciation of the relationships between organization culture, structure and behavior in enhancing the effectiveness of the healthcare system.
