About

Dr. Anthony Faiola is Professor and Head of the Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences, College of Applied Health Sciences, University of Illinois at Chicago. Formally, he was Executive Associate Dean (2008-13), and Founding Director of the Human-Computer Interaction Program (2002-14) at Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing, Indianapolis, IUPUI. He received his Ph.D. from Purdue University; and is a three-time Fulbright Scholar to Russia, Moscow/St. Petersburg.

Dr. Faiola is a social scientist whose research lies at the intersection of biomedical/health informatics and human-computer interaction––with the view of advancing the fields of digital/mobile health, patient self-monitoring, and healthy lifestyle management. He has published over 90 refereed papers, posters, and book chapters and given over 100 presentations and invited/keynote talks throughout Europe, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. As PI or Co-PI, he has secured over $1M in research funding from: NSF, MacArthur Foundation, and Fulbright Institute. He has been the advisor to over 60 MS/PhD students. He is currently working on a NSF funded mobile (connected) health project in Hypoglycemia.
