June Wencel-Drake

As a scientist, I have over 30 years of experience in the field of hematology and blood platelet research. In particular, I was interested in the regulation of cell-cell and cell-substratum interactions, which is important in a variety of biologic processes including organogenesis, phagocytosis, immune response, hemostasis and thrombosis. My research focused on the distribution, activation, and cycling of three adhesive glycoproteins (fibrinogen, fibronectin and von Willebrand factor) and receptors in human blood platelets.

Drawing on my background in physiology and pharmacology, I now teach an online course in pathophysiology that is required for the BS in health information management and the MS in biomedical visualization as well as online courses in medical terminology and information literacy.

In addition to my research background, I have over 16 years of administrative experience in the department and college in a variety of roles including acting dean, executive associate dean for academic affairs and research, department head, and director of graduate studies.
