Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Kelly earned an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Heidelberg University. She realized that while she loved science, something was missing from her career, and she sorely missed her hobby as an artist. She learned about BVIS from a friend who entered the program, and immediately fell in love. She spent two years taking private art lessons and building up her portfolio to prepare for BVIS.
Kelly is exploring different kinds of technology and innovations in the field of medical illustration. She is interested in 3D modeling, interactivity, and virtual reality. Her graduate research project is a collaboration with a classmate on the potential spaces within the craniofacial region and the pathways of infection through them. She intends to make a 3D, interactive media platform depicting them.
After graduation, Kelly hopes to work with gaming engines in order to create medical apps and games. She intends to develop the skills to both design and create these applications. She would also enjoy working as a dedicated modeler on an animation team. No matter what field she enters, Kelly aspires to remain on the cutting edge of technology in order to create educational material that will help medical professionals in their ever-expanding field.
