Ann Liu

Ann was originally from China where she graduated with a BS in biotechnology from China Agricultural University. She then received a MS in evolutionary biology from SUNY-Buffalo in US and a PhD in evolutionary genetics from University of Otago in New Zealand. While doing her PhD research, Ann developed a passion for scientific visualization and communication. She was introduced to this field by Drew Berry, an Australia-based biomedical animator. After visiting the BVIS program in 2016, she decided to pursue a career as biomedical animator/illustrator that allows her to combine her love of arts and science.

Ann is currently a first year BVIS student who is interested in 3D modeling, interactive media and molecular animation. She has just started her journey and is excited to learn and exlore all types of technology and innovations in this field of biomedical visualization. She is passionate about applying the state-of-the-art technology of computer graphics, 3D models and animations to scientific communication and biomedical education.

Upon graduation Ann would like to become a biomedical animator/illustrator and experience working in different evironments, e.g., digital companies, museum/aquarium or scientific institutes/universities. At this point, she would like to keep her mind open to any interesting opportunity that will help her navigate through this program and find her own niche in this field.
