Caroline Mansur

Caroline Mansur grew up in the small town of Clarendon Hills, Illinois. An interest in art, languages, and history led her to study Art History and French at Penn State University. Research for her undergraduate honors thesis centered on Theodore Géricault’s Portraits of the Insane, the medical discourse on mental illness in early 19th century France, and the possible medical uses of the images.  While working in government and law post-graduation, Caroline began practicing calligraphy and was advised by a master calligrapher to learn to draw the human body well in order to improve her work.  Subsequent study in figure drawing and artistic anatomy introduced her to the profession and prompted her course towards becoming a medical illustrator.

Caroline is looking forward to deepening her understanding of the structure of the human body in the dissection lab and improving her graphic communication and storyboarding skills.  She is excited to broaden her capabilities with various visualization technologies and apply these new skills in the dynamic and diverse scientific community at UIC.

Caroline hopes to create naturalistic illustrations, animations, and designs for print and the web and is especially interested in editorial illustration and projects whose applications benefit primary care physicians.
