About
Jacob Haus' academic and research training was a specialization in exercise physiology and metabolism with a specific focus on protein metabolism and skeletal muscle function with aging, as well as glucose and lipid metabolism with obesity, diabetes and aging. Haus also received training in biotechnology and he uses a clinical-translational approach to study the mechanisms of diabetes and aging.
The Haus Lab studies mechanisms of obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes and how exercise and diet can reverse or prevent these conditions. Current areas of focus involve hyperglycemia induced protein glycation. Their research is important so that early treatments for diabetes such as drugs that target the glycation endproducts or lifestyle interventions such as diet and exercise can be validated and incorporated into medical therapy to help prevent and treat the development of long-term complications associated with diabetes.
