Kinesiology students mix fun, fitness

“It’s more than just a club—it’s a lifestyle!” is a motto for the Kinesiology Club, an organization for students in the UIC College of Applied Health Sciences.
One of the club’s main events is Fit4Life, which offers the fun of rock-climbing, seated volleyball and wheelchair basketball, plus useful information about nutrition and fitness.
The students began the annual event in 2012. Held at the UIC Student Recreation Facility, it’s open to everyone on campus.
Fit4Life includes personal health assessments, fitness challenges and information on smoking cessation, nutrition and exercise. One highlight takes place on the basketball court: UIC students using wheelchairs compete against the RIC Hornets, a wheelchair basketball team sponsored by the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Students in the Kinesiology Club are avid UIC sports fans. They also volunteer at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, helping with check-in and cheering on the runners. “It’s all about having a blast and giving back to the community!” one student says.
